About Us

I would like to introduce you to our group:
Bill and I have been learning this business for eighteen years. We added Two Morrow’s above Stitches That Count five years ago when he retired from his job at a design firm and began painting needlepoint canvases for us. His background is art and design . Mine is everything from secretary to property management and director of field engineering. We both traveled all over the United States in our former lives and settled in New Castle twenty years ago.
Mary Alice was working at Stitches That Count when we purchased the shop. She is a prize winning cross stitch enthusiast and the best friend/employee a shop owner could ever have. I have told her and everyone who comes into the shop that I would not want to do this without her. She is our manager who does a great job at managing me.
We have had many other employees over the years. Everyone has contributed so much to making this a great place to work or shop. The most recent (and youngest) employee is Emily. She “volunteered” to work at our shop three years ago to get her Girl Scout Community Service Badge”. She just turned fourteen and got her “working papers”. We hired her the same day.
There are many others who are not on the payroll who contribute to keeping us going. Ruth has stitched hundreds of models, Marilyn and Jean teach classes, Helga taught me how to custom frame and I call Louise whenever I need to find a local supplier. Plus all those who have stitched and framed with us for all those years at three different locations.

FRAMING: We have new frame styles and mat colors every year. The most important thing to us is that we keep a large variety of style, color, size and price range to accommodate your special pieces.
We have a book of photographs of the pieces we have framed to show you all the different styles. We love working with you to find just the right frame for your objects d’art. There are many. Our specialty is fabric art (cross stitch, needlepoint, embroidery, christening gowns, fabric panel screen, quilt squares, crochet collars, handkerchiefs, silk scarves, tea towels and more). We have also framed many old and new photos and prints, a china plate, a belt buckle, medals, a boomerang from Australia, a variety of art (pastels, watercolors, oils). My favorite saying is, “You name it - we will try to frame it.

REMEMBER - CUSTOM FRAMING FABRIC ART TAKES TIME - most pieces can be done within TWO OR THREE WEEKS, some within a week. We do have several we have been working on for much longer. The four panel screen shown here took three years to stitch, and six months to lace and frame. The silk and lace bodice is nearly one hundred years old and required more than three months to frame. The bride is displayed in an antique frame with convex glass. The card is a painting on a leaf and took only four days to frame. All these pieces have been preserved for the next one hundred years.

NEEDLEWORK FINISHING:
YOUR STITCHED ART PLACED ON BELTS, PILLOWS, PURSES, CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS, STAND UPS, STOOLS, and RUGS. We send them to the experts who back them with leather, velvet, or a variety of fabrics and decorate them with handmade cords, beads, tassels or anything you request. We have pictures and samples from which you may choose your style. Again, this takes time. Some pieces take five weeks or more.

CUSTOM NEEDLEPOINT DESIGNS BY BILL:
Bring in your pictures, ideas, and color preferences. Have them painted on needlepoint canvas of your choice.
